Alfred received his medical degree from the Northwestern University School of Medicine, served a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic Foundation, served in the U.S. Air Force and was an internal medicine staff physician and president of Health Midwest Comprehensive Health Care from 1964-1996. But he has not slowed down since then. He has served on the board of the Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care for 20 years and is past board president, works at Kansas City Care (previously known as Kansas City Free Health Clinic), and is past president of the Retired Physicians Organization.
