“All of us have certain talents and skills we can offer to assist others, and to do so is both a personal pleasure and a way we can hopefully leave a lasting mark on our community.”

Kansas City’s arts culture is certainly richer thanks to the service of Don Dagenais, who served for 40 years on the board of the Kansas City Lyric Opera Guild, 37 years on the board of The Coterie Theatre, 12 years on the board of the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, and eight years on the boards of the UMKC Conservatory and Summerfest Concerts. Since 1986 he has been the principal lecturer for Lyric Opera education programs throughout the metro area and has taught dozens of courses and given hundreds of lectures on topics related to opera and classical music, including courses for the Shepherd’s Center Adventures in Learning program since 1990. During his professional life as an attorney (43 years at Lathrop Gage LLP), Don also served dozens of organizations through his work with the Kansas City Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts. He and his wife Patricia have been married since 1974 and have two grown daughters and two grandchildren.
