Mary Lou

Kegler

“Serving others has always been who I am. I just cannot help it, and I would not change it. I serve God by rendering practical help to others both physically and spiritually. My desire is to be my brother/sister’s keeper through service.”

Mary retired in 1998 from a management position with the Social Security Administration after 32 years of government service. She is an ordained minister of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ and has been in ministry since her retirement, currently serving at Swope Parkway United Christian Church (DOC) in Kansas City, MO. She also serves as a regional moderator of the Greater Kansas City Region DOC, a trustee of the Historical Society of the Christian Church (DOC) and the Black Disciples Endowment Fund Christian Church (DOC) and as chair of the Elder Board and a Sunday School teacher at her current church. In the past she has served on the boards of the Niles Home for Children, Save INC and Linwood Branch YMCA. Mary is also a breast cancer overcomer who loves to speak publically about her “mountain top experience,” insisting that “Having a positive attitude saved me, my faith sustained me, and positive influences I my life kept me.”
