“Service has provided me with opportunities to pursue involvement in activities that promote results that focus on the ‘greater good for all’.”
Gary is a veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-61 and then received an associates degree in electronic engineering. He worked as an engineering associate and then production supervisor for Western Electric/At&T/Lucent Technologies for 27 years, retiring in 1991. He and his wife Shirley moved to Belton in 1967, and in the past he was very active in a wide variety of government and community organizations in Belton, Harrisonville and Peculiar, including serving as president of the Belton and Peculiar Chambers of Commerce. Today, Gary is as busy as ever; since 2014 he has served as Presiding Commissioner for the Mt. Pleasant Township Special Road District since 2014 and as the Belton/Cass County Regional Transportation Development District President. For the past four years, he has also been board president of Downtown Belton/Main St. Inc. and a member of the City of Belton Building and Fire Prevention Board. As if that didn’t keep him busy enough, he and Shirley have three children, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
