Robert has served on the board of Westport Ministry in Housing for many years and currently serves as board president. They oversee the management of Westport House, which is a Housing and Urban Development senior housing apartment in Westport. He also serves on the board of Midtown Kansas City Now and is a member of the Heart of Westport Neighborhood Association, the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, the Westport Historical Society and Historic Kansas City. Robert spent his career as a teacher, assistant principal and principal in the Kansas City, Missouri School District from 1969 to 1992. After he retired, he tutored reading and senior English as Cristo Rey High School and delivered Meals on Wheels, often taking his children with him when they were younger. In 2011, he was honored by the Missouri Association of School Librarians with the Service Award for School Administrators.
