Dee’s superpower’s are openness, positivity and never meeting a stranger! She is the quintessential “Renaissance Woman” with talents in a multitude of areas. She has traveled the globe and is familiar with various cultures and mores. Through her thirst for knowledge and love of books, she has shared that passion for reading with children in church programs and local schools. KC Shepherd’s Center has been the recipient of many years of Dee’s expertise and love of learning. She began volunteering for KC Shepherd’s Center many years ago when she went through training and taught an exercise class and later as a Senior Companion for 2 years. She is an active participant in Adventures in Learning. To assist with the Adventures in Learning program, with help from Jane Golden, she shopped for and prepared the meals for the Noon Forum program for over a year. Her creativity was on display when she began a monthly Movie Day for Adventures in Learning members, she even provided the popcorn.
She also nurtured another interest, gardening, by becoming a Master Gardener and then volunteered at local community gardens and answered questions from the public from their help line. In her “spare time” she also volunteered with a grade school, working with students in all phases of gardening including cooking and stressing the nutritional benefits of eating produce.
Before the pandemic began, she also served as a barista at local community center HJ’s and whipped up lattes and various coffee drinks for community events. Dee’s philosophy is share your knowledge, engage with your community and enjoy life.
