Betty Boyd is a giving, kind and very capable person. After working 47 years as a nurse at Children’s Mercy, she is still giving her time by volunteering weekly at the hospital for the last 8 years, even thru the Covid pandemic. In her role as a greeter, she helps the families find their way upon arrival. With her caring and knowledgeable way, she is the perfect person to set those families at ease in what must surely be a stressful and worrisome time. She also volunteered for many years at Powell Gardens. She was recognized there as the volunteer with the most hours worked for three consecutive years. The Children’s Garden shines brighter because of her and her touches are seen in several of the projects there. Many of the children who visited the garden on field trips were lucky to have Betty passing along her knowledge and passion for the garden to them. She has supported Powell Gardens through her philanthropic donations, as well as her generous gift of time. She always is ready to tackle whatever task is at hand and not afraid to get dirty. Betty is a take-charge kind of volunteer; she does not wait around to be told what to do, she takes action and get things done.
