82, Dedicated

After a stellar 40-year career in cardiology, Dr Alan Forker retired in 2016. He was given the opportunity in the mid-point of his career to move from Lincoln, Nebraska to Kansas City to pursue a life-long dream to teach medicine.  Alan accepted the offer to serve as Professor of Medicine and Chief of Cardiology for UMKC and Truman Medical Centers.  His professional path led him to leadership positions with both the MO American College of Physicians (ACP), and the MO American College of Cardiology (ACC), where he served as Governor (Board Chairman) for both organizations. Retirement opened a wide door to Alan's "next chapter" - community service.  His many volunteer pursuits include a member (including past Board Chair) of the Retired Physician's Organization; Advisory Board member, KC Communities for All Ages; Board Member, Shepherd's Center of America; and presenter extraordinaire on health issues to multiple organizations - including KC Shepherd's Center.  When asked his thoughts on the key to positive aging, Alan states" Paying attention to one's physical, emotional, and spiritual health is fundamental to healthy aging."  Alan agrees with being characterized as dedicated as he has always been dedicated to the profession of medicine and to his family. As a caregiver for his late wife who suffered from Alzheimer's, he is acutely aware of the challenges facing those who care for loved ones.  Having always found meaning in a variety of Christian faiths, Alan, and his wife Anne, are enjoying a new spiritual force at the Church of the Resurrection.  Together, they are proud parents of 4 adult children, 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
