In October of 1977, Carol McClure was asked to join a group of volunteers with the aim of addressing issues her neighborhood was facing.  She was elected then and still faithfully serves the Stratford Estates Homes Association as their Secretary and Treasurer.  Through her leadership, the Southern Communities coalition was formed.  Carol works closely with Kansas City’s 5th and 6th District City Council Members, as well as the KCMO City Planning and Neighborhoods Committees to create a safe neighborhood environment in South Kansas City.  She has mentored countless neighborhood leaders to work with the city and local officials to improve their neighborhoods.  If you want something done in South KC, it is said you have to go through Carol.  She also volunteers with local non-profit organizations such as her church, First Lutheran Church, Community Assistance Council and Metro Lutheran Ministries.  She is kind and pleasant, but also tenacious in her pursuit of strengthening our community.  “No one does this alone - we all come together with the same goal of preserving our community.”  She is hopeful the next generation with join her in efforts to make our neighborhoods and communities safer and stronger.
