Fostering a spirit of service in others is an apt description for Susie. Within two years of graduating from college, Susie started to be involved in the community, beginning with The National Paraplegia Foundation, The Whole Person, Kansas City Harmony, Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Rockhurst University, Niles Home for Children, Samuel Rodgers Health Center, Ride KC, Starr Women’s Hall of Fame, and many others. Susie has served as board chair, board member, committee chair, advisory board member, and program volunteer throughout her volunteer career. In all of her community work, Susie focusses both on the management matters of an organization and on issues of equity and accessibility. Her 36 years at Hallmark Cards gave her the management perspective and her life experiences that give her a unique personal perspective. Susie has been an important resource to Hallmark and to the broader community on accessibility, accommodation and sensitivity issues towards with people disabilities. She has made a lasting impact through advocacy, presentations, training and media appearances. In addition to serving nonprofit organizations, Susie has volunteered for a number of philanthropic organizations. “I have loved making a positive difference in Kansas City’s nonprofits by being a part of grant making with The Women’s Foundation, Kauffman Fund, and Jacob and Ella Loose Foundation boards,” states Susie. She is known as the ultimate networker. If you are a part of her network, you are blessed with her wisdom, her values and her beautiful smile.
